The local lanes, tracks and trails provide some excellent biking or you can head further afield to some of the organised trails.
These are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland. Two of these are within driving distance of Ballantrae. Bike hire is possible.
- Glentrool – set in the Galloway Forest, there are fun routes for family and beginners as well as a blue grade trail, all surrounded by stunning scenery. See glentrool or call 01671 840 302 for more details.
- Kirroughtree – home to some of the best technical singletrack in the country, it is also a great family venue with a wide range of trails, a children’s play area and a seasonal café. See kirroughtree or call 01671 401 303 for more details.
There are three trails that run through the Galloway Forest. One round Clatteringshaws Loch which follows roads and tracks and has no dramatic up or down hill.
