River Cottages
Our four holiday cottages situated along the River Stinchar sleep between two and ten people. They have all been beautifully modernised and furnished with great flair to make a perfect base for your Scottish holiday and we look forward to welcoming you to Ballantrae, our friendly Ayrshire village.
All the cottages are situated along a quiet country lane, within quarter of a mile from the sea, backed by farm land and looking South over the River Stinchar to the surrounding South Ayrshire countryside and Galloway Hills beyond. With marked river, woodland, seaside and farm walks direct from the door, the properties are all situated just off the Ayrshire Coastal Path, www.ayrshirecoastalpath.org -Scotland’s long distance walking route along one of the finest panoramic coastlines in the British Isles. The coastline is crowned with a superb backdrop of the ever-changing profile of Ailsa Craig and the mountains of Arran across the Firth of Clyde. The area is steeped in history and teeming with wildlife, including red squirrels, roe deer, otters and seals and is a haven for bird watchers on the moors and estuary.
The holiday cottages all have amazing views over the water and Stinchar Cottage and Castlehill have proper sea views. They are all within several hundred yards of one another near the seaside village of Ballantrae with its maritime climate of early Springs and mild Autumns. The River Cottages are a short stroll from a beautiful river bank path which runs for a kilometre along the river below the cottages. The beach is within easy walking distance less than one mile along the lane and through the village.
We take great pride in our cottages and all are extremely comfortable and make a great base for exploring the wonderful countryside. They have been finished to a high standard and are furnished with an eclectic mix of old and new and all of them have plenty of homely touches making them feel like 'a home from home'. The cottages are dog-friendly as well as the fabulous beaches nearby. Ballantrae is a great place to holiday, it is an extremely friendly village with a shop, pub and a few cafes all within walking distance.
