Stinchar Cottage

Sleeps 2 (2 extra beds available)

Stinchar Cottage

Originally the toll cottage for the old bridge over the River Stinchar this cottage is situated at the edge of the friendly village of Ballantrae with the shop and pub within easy walking distance.

The cottage is within a historic conservation area and has been completely and uniquely renovated. There is a pretty garden which slopes down to the river between the old and new bridges. From the garden there is direct access on to the river path which is a great favourite for dogs. This south-facing cottage looks straight on to the river and across the countryside to the sea.

Stinchar Cottage features a large galleried living room with a double height pitched ceiling revealing the limed wood roof timbers, really comfortable sofa and chairs, a dining and kitchen area and a cosy wood-burning stove. From the main door you enter through a utilty area with pegs for coats and a separate cloakroom. At the far end of the sitting room there is a double bedroom with king size bed and en-suite shower room with a huge shower. The open-plan simple gallery room (for two) has twin beds and is reached by a retractable ladder from the sitting room – some nimbleness is required and it is not suitable for children under 8 or the elderly.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Stinchar Cottage. The cottage is within easy walking distance to river walk, beach walk, and all local amenities. Ate in the Kings Arms, good homecooked food, very friendly staff. As for the cottage, wonderfully appointed, spotlessly clean and a large comfy double bed, complimented with goose down bedding! The cottage is great value for money and we'd return without hesitation.

It’s a short walk to a lovely shingle beach and handy for great day trips to Ayr, Portpatrick and loads of other places. Would love to come back when the Kings Arms is fully up and running!

What a find! Absolutely lovely cottage, the photos don’t do it justice. Lovely comfortable living room with kindling already in the stove ready for us to light, which we did with a glass of red in hand! All the necessary equipment in the kitchen and a lovely vase of fresh flowers to welcome us. Would definitely highly recommend this place.
