The local lanes, tracks and trails provide some excellent biking or you can head further afield to some of the organised trails.

7 Stanes – these are seven mountain biking centres spanning the south of Scotland. Two of these are within driving distance of Ballantrae. Bike hire is possible.

  • Glentrool – set in the Galloway Forest, there are fun routes for family and beginners as well as a blue grade trail, all surrounded by stunning scenery. See or call 01671 840 302 for more details.
  • Kirroughtree – home to some of the best technical singletrack in the country, it is also a great family venue with a wide range of trails, a children’s play area and a seasonal café. See or call 01671 401 303 for more details.

Galloway Forest – there are three trails that run through the Galloway Forest. One round Clatteringshaws Loch which follows roads and tracks and has no dramatic up or down hill. A second round Loch Braden with an optional loop to Loch Doon and the third a circular route from Glentrool. See for more details.
